The storyline of this book was very interesting, yet the author didn't seem to fully develop the story or the characters. The characters were stereotypes and it was easy to predict what they were going to do based on that alone. SPOILERS: 1) the tree limb crashed through the cottage window in Jem's bedroom, yet all we get is a description of the window being boarded up. What happened to the tree limb? 2) Jem finds the hidden witch bottle, yet there was never any part of the story that explained her opening it and finding the contents. Later on it's mentioned she had. 3) No wrap up as to why/when Jem hid the bottles in the cottage to begin with after Honor was freed, nor any explanation as to whether or not she lived there her entire life. 4) What exactly was in the contents of the book Christy gave to Jem? We never exactly find out because Jem admits she was exaggerating/bluffing her way through to save Honor's life. There were so many problems with this book, much of which involved an incomplete storyline with holes and gaps. And the ending was rushed and disappointing. Btw, the character Honor being a witch seemed very familiar to me, as if I'd read it somewhere else...same name, referred to as a witch, and was a midwife/doctor who saved lives back when it was unheard of for women. Perhaps ideas are "shared" or borrowed via authors, agents and publishers. I did enjoy this read. It was pretty fast because I didn't want to put it down. It was light and entertaining with likable characters. I think it would be great as two complete books because I was kind of sorry to get to the end.
